Just Saw Dreamgirls

Dreamgirls (2006): Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Hudson, Bill Condon

What a show! Being the child of a couple of baby boomers, I was raised on the Supremes and they’re still one of my favorite groups of all time. And who knew that in a cast including Eddie Murphy at the top of his game, a great, slick Jamie Foxx, and an even competent (and amazing singer) Beyonce, an American Idol contestant would steal the show? Her voice will raise the hairs on the back your neck, but her acting is gutsy, bold, and feels true. My prediction: this movie will be nominated for Best Picture. There’s no way it can topple the train that seems to be the Departed right now (and it doesn’t deserve to), but it should be nominated.
