Oscar
Sorry this post is a little behind. I had a short story due and an internship application due on the same day. Now that things are slightly less hectic (only slightly), I can post my thoughts about the Oscars. As you know, I’m a movie fiend and I watch the oscars every year. Ellen was a warm host that aroused a few chuckles in me, but on the whole she was a little too mild, especially after the biting brilliant humor of Jon Stewart last year. On the whole, I was happy with the results, and I scored well in the proverbial oscar pool – I got all of the big eight right except for supporting actor (I predicted Eddie Murphy but wanted Mark Wahlburg. He was just too good in The Departed). Speaking of The Departed, I am so happy that Marty finally got what he has deserved for many a year, and I’m also happy that his old friends, those incredible directors, got to present it to him. What a treat to see those guys all together on stage (with the exception of Lucas, but we’ll let him up there if he’s their friend). I wish Pan’s Labyrinth had won more, but it still did well in the technical categories. I’m already excited for what movies to look forward to next year – for example, the fact that Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman presented together was a reference to their upcoming performances in The Golden Compass, which I am beyond excited to see. It’ll be a disappointment of course, compared to the splendor of the books, but I’m excited nonetheless.
