Adventures in Web Design
My weeks working for my parents have been edifying — particularly in the world of web design. One of my primary responsibilities is updating and overhauling the site for my mother’s business (she’s a French wine importer, and she and my dad work on the business together). I’ve added Google ads, a google search box, and I designed a start page and several other pages completely from scratch with HTML. It was a mammoth task and I felt fairly daunted, especially when dealing with tables. I know a little html, but I went up the learning curve in a major way this week by doing research online and tinkering with the pages. Hopefully I’ll be able to put my new knowledge to use here at Creative Writing Corner. For starters, I’d like to design static pages for my stories that make it actually enjoyable to read online, so look out for those. I may also design an “about me” page with a few bits of info about me and my writing career as it has been advancing so far. To get you started, however, I can’t resist a little preening over the work I did this week on my mother’s site, so check out cynthiahurley.com to see a little of my handiwork.
