Compelling review, BLH! I must read this book. It sounds fascinating. How odd to focus one's obsession on an inanimate object of beauty rather than, say, a beautiful human being.

The 'standard' version of this storyline would have the monk throw acid in the face of a 'perfect' young woman. But to burn down an actual 'temple of beauty'--that is really taking this theme to the mat!

Thanks for the recommendation! You must be busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger these days. It makes your posts that much more precious to your many fans. Good luck. Stay sane.
